SPC – Skate Park Committee
September 1, 2009 Rock Rocamontes Speaks at City Hall. Gets Cody Rocamontes Memorial Skatepark on the Agenda for the September 22, 2009 meeting. September 5, 2009, SPC (Skate Park Committee) officially formed. In a two hour meeting with everyone working together the SPC was officially formed. Meetings to be every Saturday, until further notice, with continued informal meetings on Thursdays.

September 12th, SPC met with Matt Young, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation. Matt is acting liaison between SPC and Parks and Recreation. Matt advised the team to achieve realistic goals, and helped SPC understand the system in place with the city. Although some news was disappointing, the end result of the meeting left SPC members feeling as though they can keep a very positive momentum and achieve their goals with your support.

September 21, 2009, SPC sells shirts at the Vacant Minyards parking lot on little Rd. Huge success, sold out of almost every shirt except the Youth Sizes! THANK YOU ALL FOR COMMING OUT TO BOTH SHIRT SALES!
September 22, 2009, Martin High and Boles Jr. High schools ask everyone to ware orange to support Cody Rocamontes and the Memorial Skatepark.
September 22, 2009. Arlington City Council Meeting was an Epic Event. Thank you to everyone who came out, rallied together and sat so patiently through the entire City Council Meeting. Link below. September 25, 2009. Parks and Recreation Department and city council members meet with SPC to discuss moving forward on bringing the park date up at least one year, also discuss "band aid park". SPC considers this a huge milestone in such a short amount of time.
September 26, 2009. Greg Stubbs invites SPC to meet and bring kids out to skate at Guapo, private skatepark. In the meeting, discussed immediate plans to implement private donations, labor and materials to break ground as soon as possible on both the orginal skatepark plans and possible band aid park.
October 13, 2009. YES, Skate ramps are in from Freshpark.com. SPC has an immediate need for a trailer so we can get these ramps out for kids to skate! If you know anyone who has a small trailer to donate please contact codyrocamontes@yahoo.com . We would like an enclosed trailer if possible. We have an immediate wish list that we will be posting on craigslist soon.
October 24, 2009. SPC meeting with consultant, 5013C status may just be a couple weeks away.
October 24, 2009. SPC met with Matt Young, City of Arlington Parks and Recreation. Matt was full of good news, including, but not limited to information that the City of Arlington will have its own website up and running that includes a detailed public process. There will be web based questionnaires, November 2009 and e-Newsletters, December 2009. The public involvment will get the ball rolling, and we are feeling quite an accomplishment! We are ready for the "gift skatepark" and we were able to see several potential sites for those. It also looks like we may be able to be put on the actual agenda for the November 9, 2009 City Council Meeting. Matt was able to breathe some fresh air back into our cause and we need your support now more than ever.
We also discussed upcoming fundraiser concert at Levitt Pavilion, potential date - Saturday, March 13, 2009, confirmation within the next week or so.
February: Update concert is now at Dreamworld Music complex in Arlington. Dates between will be filled in by 2/28/10
- Arlington city news - Current News: Arlington Parks and Recreation held a Bike and Hike System open house January 27, 2010. The need for Bike and Pedestrian lanes, including but not limited to, the need for sidewalks and safe streets where issues heard Consistently. As an organized committee we were overwhelmed at the turnout and to hear the issues that mean so much to us discussed among groups. March, we have filed our papers to become our own non-profit after many failed attempts to unbrella under another larger non-profit.
